Commerce Leadership Team Retreat

September 9, 2022

On Aug 29th, approximately 50 members of Commerce’s leadership team met at the capitol for a short retreat. It was targeted at helping managers better understand the needs of their team members and how best to communicate with them.

The day began with a visit from Governor Cox, who shared several experiences of how open and collaborative communication helped him show employees that he cares about them. He also explained that building culture and a sense of belonging is something that is important to help teams feel valued and know the work they’re doing makes a difference.

In addition to receiving instruction, the Commerce leadership team participated in a service project. The team assembled over 100 paracord bracelets to be distributed to active duty military and individuals in Ukraine. This was a fun activity that supported a great cause.

This retreat is part of an ongoing effort to ensure Commerce managers (and all employees) have the training they need to be successful at their jobs. One of the department’s strategic goals is to develop a comprehensive training plan. Details for this plan are coming soon.
