Executive Director Message – January 2022

January 10, 2022

Hello team commerce:

It’s hard to believe that 2022 is upon us. One year ago this week I took on the task of overseeing this incredible department. I think I used the “drinking from a firehose” ad nauseam for the first several weeks. I did get a good long drink over the past year!

It’s been an incredible journey so far and I’ve enjoyed getting to know and work with all of the skilled professionals working here at Commerce. You’ve heard me say many times that we are “One Commerce” and it’s clear that over this past year we’ve grown together. Thank you for your work and dedication to the state of Utah and the business community and residents we serve.

It may be cliche, but as it is a new year, I hope we can all make a goal of improving just a little bit where we are. Author and business entrepreneur Ryan Lilly said “Unwavering incremental change can create remarkable and monumental results.” If we resolve to improve in one area, even just five minutes a day, the results can be monumental.

As we look towards another year, we will continue to focus on executing our mission of “Strengthening Trust in Utah’s Commercial Activities.”  This means streamlining regulation that creates unnecessary barriers, educating the public to be more sophisticated consumers, and doubling down our efforts to ensure perpetrators who are actively violating the trust of investors, entrepreneurs, and other participants in the economy are held accountable. Thank you again for your part in that mission.
